Laketa and Milina discussed the implementation of the new EU Migration Package and strengthening cooperation

Strengthening cooperation in the field of migration, the implementation of the new Pact on Migration and Asylum of the European Union, as well as improving joint activities in the fight against irregular migration were the key topics of the meeting between the Director of the Service for Foreigners' Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Žarko Laketa, and the Chief Director of the Police of the Republic of Croatia, Nikola Milina, held in Zagreb.

Special attention was paid to the beginning of the full implementation of the European Union Pact on Migration and Asylum, which enters into force on 12 June 2026. During the meeting, it was emphasized that the Member States of the European Union, including the Republic of Croatia, will consistently and rigorously apply new procedures towards foreign nationals who attempt to illegally enter the territory of the European Union.

The continuation of successful cooperation between the Service for Foreigners' Affairs and the Police of the Republic of Croatia was also discussed, especially in the area of ​​implementation of the Readmission Agreement, exchange of information and joint response to migration challenges.

The interlocutors also addressed the importance of cooperation with third countries, as well as the important role of FRONTEX in strengthening migration management capacities and protecting the external borders of the European Union.

During the meeting,  Director  Laketa was informed that in the coming period, European Union countries will further strengthen the control and surveillance of external borders, including the border of the Republic of Croatia as the external border of the European Union.

In addition to Director Laketa and Director Milina, the meeting was attended by Jozo Šuker, Deputy Director General of the Police of the Republic of Croatia, Dulio Tolić, Assistant Head of the Border Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, and Ivo Ramljak, Head of the Readmission, Reception and Accommodation Sector at the Service for Foreigners' Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting once again confirmed the commitment of both sides to continued close cooperation, timely exchange of information, and joint action in the field of migration management and security.
