Ombudsman for Human Rights of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dr. Jasminka Džumhur with associates visited the Service for Foreigners' Affairs, May 10th, 2018. On that ocassion, she spoke with Director Slobodan Ujić and his Deputy Mirsad Buzar on current problems regarding increased influx of migrants in BiH.
Director informed Mrs Džumhur about the current situation of increased influx of migrants in BiH, and emphasized that from January to present had been processed around 3500 migrants which is three times more of total number of migrants in 2017. Ujić highlighted that SPS registers migrants, and takes biometric data, striving to manage migration in BiH along with other competent institutions although the difficult circumstances.
Mrs Džumhur stressed that it is necessary to achieve closer cooperation between competent institutions in order to protect human rights of migrants who are using BiH only as a transit area for crossing in to EU countries, but the care on safety of citizens must be taken. She added that is very crucial the strengthening capacites of competent institutions in order to respond adequately to complex situation regarding increased influx of migrants.
Director Ujić thanked for the visit and highlighted that competent institutions shall reach solutions for additional accommodation capacities which would be outside urban areas of cities (Sarajevo, Bihać, Velika Kladuša) and relocate migrants at the aforesaid locations by joint actions in following days, and in coordination with the highest state institutions.
