On April 18, 2024, Director of the Service for Foreignersā Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Žarko Laketa, led delegation of the BiH Regional Management Board in Tirana.
It was the second meeting in a row, within the initiative āEU regional support for systems for protective- sensitive migration management in the Western Balkansā.
Mr. Laketa, who holds the position of Deputy President of the BiH Regional Management Board, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, and a common approach to the migration challenges.
The part of delegation led by Mr. Laketa were also Mr. Dobrica KucaloviÄ, Adviser to the Minister in the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Mustafa PaÅ”aliÄ, Representative of the Sector for Asylum ā Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mrs. Amra IsoviÄ- Operta, Representative of the National Contact Point- the BiH Ministry of Security and Mr. Arman MiidžiÄ, the Head of Office for Strategic Planning and Integration in EU, BP BiH.
By joint forces, this important meeting enabled dialogue and cooperation between partners from the Western Balkans and international actors, with a focus on improving migration management mechanism.
Topics discussed included:
- Advancement of statistics and mechanism for identification, registration and guidance of mixed migration movements.
- Enforcement of international cooperation,
- Development of strategies for return and humane alternatives to the detention,
- Planning and responses in cases of emergencies and crisis.
The Service for Foreignersā Affairs, under the management by Mr. Laketa, and in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Security of BiH, has a key role in the implementation of the decisions and strategies adopted at this meeting, which includes cooperation with national and international partners.
Through such initiatives, the SFA contributes to the construction of more resilient and efficient migration management system, with a special focus on protecting the rights and dignity of migrants.
Regional cooperation and support of international partners, such as EU and UN agencies, remain essential in effectively addressing the challenges of irregular migration, and todayās meeting represents another step forward in joint efforts to achieve this goal.
