The continuation of coordinated activities in detecting and preventing the illegal stay of foreigners and smuggling of migrants

Through a coordinated action, inspectors of the Service for Foreigners' Affairs in cooperation with the police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) carried out intensified control activities at the three locations in the municipalities of Stari Grad and Ilidža in Sarajevo. On this ocassion, controls were conducted in the residental buildings that were illegaly used to accomodate foreign citizens.

During the action, about 20 foreign citizens were found, and all will be subject to measures and actions stipulated by law, and within the competances of the Service for Foreigners' Affairs.A total of 200 travel and identification documents were found, among which were documents of the citizens from Nepal, Bangladesh and Turkey, as well as a significant amount of equipment used for illegal border crossings and a large number of mobile phones.

For two Pakistani nationals, S.S. and A.S., who have been found to be connected to the organization of international migrant smuggling along the Western Balkan route, a extradition measure has been issued, along with supervision and placement in the Immigration Center in Istočno Sarajevo. Further actions regarding them will be carried out by the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), given an indication linking them to migrant smuggling and the travel documents that were found.

The Service for Foreigners’ Affairs will continue, in cooperation with the relevant institutions, to carry out enhanced control and supervision activities aimed at combating illegal stay , preventing human trafficking, and stopping the illegal use and renting of facilities for the accommodation of migrants.

On this occasion, we call on citizens to report all information about illegal and unregistered facilities for the accommodation of foreigners to the relevant field offices of the SFA, so that we can jointly to contribute to the maintaining security and the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
