Delegation of the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Counterterrorism visited the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs. Deputy Program Director of the Bureau of Counterterrorism John Herbst was accompanied with Kyle Conahan, Regional Advisor for Europe and Eurasia of the Bureau of Counterterrorism and Alden Green, Advisor of the Bureau of Counterterrorism .

Randall Wilson, the Coordinator and Senior Advisor of the Group of Counterterrorism at the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo, Serra Pehlivan the Regional Attaché of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and Darko Ivić, the Project Coordinator at the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo.

Director of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, Žarko Laketa briefed the present on organization and SFA’ competences together with Deputy Director of SFA, Almin Imamović, Chief of the Cabinet of SFA, Goran Blagojević and Head of Sector for Readmission, Reception and Accommodation, Ivo Ramljak, and informed on current migrant situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the situation at the Temporary Reception Centers.

Also, they discussed the need and the very importance of exchanging information about people who can be linked to terrorism, which is of great importance for regional and global security.

Upon the working part of the meeting, the delegation, accompanied by Director Laketa and the Head of Sector Ivo Ramljak, visited the Immigration Center in order to learn about its work, and during the visit, they also toured the newly built, upgraded third floor of the Center, which testifies to the continuous improvement of the capacity for provision of services to the migrants.

This visit confirms the commitment of both sides to strengthening international security and stability. The visit was an opportunity to exchange information and experiences and provided a better understanding of the challenges they face with in relation to terrorism and migration.

It is expected that further cooperation will result in concrete actions and projects, which will contribute to the preservation of security and stability in BiH and beyond.
