THE VISIT OF SERVICE FOR FOREIGNERS’ AFFAIRS AND THE REPERESENTATIVE OF CIVIPOL AT THE JOINT CENTER FOR INTER-COOPERATION IN TREBINJE

Director of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Žarko Laketa, together with CIVIPOL representative Jean-Philippe Verne, visited the Joint Center for Inter-Police Cooperation in Trebinje as part of the EU4FAST project, aimed at strengthening the capacity of the countries of the Western Balkans to fight against smuggling migrants and human trafficking, which is implemented by CIVIPOL together with GIZ, CLIC and the Ministry of the Interior of Italy, and which is financed by the European Commission.

Along with Director Laketa, the Deputy Director of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, Almin Imamović, and Assistant of Mr. Verne, Nermina Jerković, were also on the visit. The aim of the visit was to exchange experience and information on the current situation regarding the migrant situation, as well as to identify opportunities for strengthening cooperation and support in efforts to combat migrant smuggling and human trafficking.

During the visit, the Director  Laketa emphasized the importance of international police cooperation in the fight against these criminal activities, and expressed his gratitude to CIVIPOL for its support and cooperation so far, while Mr. Verne emphasized that this visit is an opportunity to further improve the cooperation between the affairs with foreigners and BP with CIVIPOL, and that support will continue to be provided in capacity building and exchange of knowledge and experience.

This visit represents an important step in the cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and international partners in the fight against migrant smuggling and human trafficking, and shows the commitment of all parties involved in solving this complex issue.
