Conversation between Director of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs and Regional Protection and Gender Thematic Expert at the European Commission for Humanitarian Aid, and Office for Civil Protection

Today, Director of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, Mr. Žarko Laketa received the Regional Protection and Gender Thematic Expert at the European Commission for Humanitarian Aid and the Office for Civil Protection, Eliana Irato, accompanied by her colleagues from related organisations engaged in the humanitarian work, protection and care of migrants, with special emphasis on vulnerable categories, women, unaccompanied minors and families.

During the meeting, Ms. Irato emphasized the importance of protecting the human rights of migrants, given that they are often exposed to various forms of discrimination and violation of their basic rights.

She highlighted the need for special attention, and care in order to ensure that their rights are protected and respected.

Director Laketa expressed his full understanding for challenges that migrants are faced with and pointed out that Service for Foreigners’ Affairs is trying to help them in the best possible way within its jurisdiction and added that the SFA will continue to provide support to migrants and work to improve their conditions during their stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Through joint efforts in protection of human rights of migrants, both sides have shown commitment to this issue and thus agreed to move towards creating society where each individual is treated with respect no matter from where they come from.
