Through intensified inspection activities in the Municipality of Ilidža (Sarajevo Canton) on the morning of June 23, 2026, the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs discovered a total of 42 foreign nationals residing illegally in Bosnia and Herzegovina, identified two individuals suspected of involvement in migrant smuggling, and discovered a Sudanese national linked to cross-border criminal activities that pose a threat to public security of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During an inspection of a residential building used for the illegal accommodation of migrants, 34 foreign nationals were found: 21 nationals of Bangladesh, 10 of Pakistan, and three of Nepal. It was determined that these individuals had entered Bosnia and Herzegovina illegally from the direction of Montenegro. As part of the same operation, two Pakistani nationals suspected of involvement in migrant smuggling were also identified.
An inspection of an illegal, so-called “illegal hotel” revealed another eight foreign nationals residing illegally in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A Sudanese national holding a Romanian temporary residence permit had his visa-free stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina revoked; an extradition order was issued against him, and he was placed under supervision at the Immigration Center in East Sarajevo after being linked to cross- border criminal activities that threaten the public security of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Extradition measures were also issued against two Pakistani nationals suspected of involvement in migrant smuggling; they, too, were placed under supervision at the Immigration Centre in East Sarajevo. Other foreign nationals were referred to the Blažuj Temporary Reception Centre for further processing.
Misdemeanor sanctions were imposed on the property owners, and measures prescribed by law were taken within the jurisdiction of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs.
These activities were carried out in cooperation with the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina; acting on a verbal order from the Trebinje District Public Prosecutor’s Office, Border Police officers assisted officials from the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs during inspections in the Municipality of Ilidža. These operations represent a continuation of the determined fight against illegal migration, human smuggling, and all forms of abuse regarding the stay of foreign nationals within the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
